Dreams of Africa
Dreams of AfricaI fell in love with Africa as a child and finally realized my dream of going on safari the first time in 1996. I always dreamed of having my very own black panther tethered to a pole in the yard. That is something that never came to pass. In my heart I knew I needed to be a part of this incredible place even though I didn’t really understand all of the reasons why. I would think about having a farm at the foot of the Ngong Hills and Isik Dinasen’s works on Africa and I pondered my future. It was never my intention to travel totally alone to this unusual place nor to take photographs but all of that was to take a radical turn. In 1996 I was scheduled to travel with a family during my overland trip to Botswana but three weeks prior to the trip the family unexpectedly cancelled and my trip organizers, the Penstones were unable to find a replacement.

They assured me that wouldn’t be a problem since they lived in Maun Botswana and were traveling to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe to drop off a group and so they could just take me back with them for no additional cost. I was a bit unnerved at first but once I got to Victoria Falls and Patrick picked me up and we began an amazing adventure that has lasted until this very day and I quickly realized that the alone type of travel was exactly what I needed. My senses were hightened and I realized many profound that I couldn’t expect anything and should always expect the unexpected. This seemingly simple statement has carried me successfully through many of life’s challenges. The energy in Africa is like no other that I have experienced in my life.

That initial trip made me realize that I was totally unable to travel into this incredible high energy place with anyone other than my appointed guides.

My journals of these adventures over the next decade are included in this site. I hope that you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed sharing them with you.
